The need-to-knows, the good-to-knows, and the things nobody tells you. Consider this your cheat sheet for feeling a little less new at this.

Let’s Get You Ready.

First time waxing Guide

  • Let it grow.
Give us about 3 weeks of growth, or roughly ¼ inch, the length of a grain of rice. And resist the urge to trim. Too long is something we can work with; too short isn’t.

  • Exfoliate ahead of time.
Regular, gentle exfoliation in the week leading up to your wax is great. Just give your skin a break on appointment day.

  • Come clean + product-free.
Skip heavy lotions, body oils, deodorant on the area being waxed, and self-tanner on wax day.

  • Wear something loose.
Clean, loose-fitting, breathable clothing is best, especially for body waxing.

  • Easy on the caffeine + alcohol.
Both can contribute to sensitivity, so limiting them before your appointment can make things a little easier.

  • Tell us about medications + skincare.
Certain acne medications, retinoids, recent peels/resurfacing treatments, sunburn, or compromised skin can make waxing unsafe. When in doubt, tell us before we wax.

There’s a little homework, but we promise it’s the easy kind.

Before You Get Bare

We’ll show you where to put your things, let you know what to remove, and turn around to give you privacy while you get settled.

Once you’re on the table, we’ll walk you through positioning and let you know what we’re doing as we go.

The wax goes on warm, the pull is quick, and we apply pressure right after. We’ll keep you talking through all of it, so there’s not much time to sit there and overthink it. Does it sting? For a second. But just like a Band-Aid, once it’s over, it’s over.

You don’t need to know what to take off, where to lay, or what comes next.

Then We’ll Take It From There.

  • Skip the sweat.
Hold off on heavy workouts and excessive sweating for 24–48 hours. Heat, friction, sweat, and bacteria aren't exactly freshly waxed skin's favorite combination.

  • Keep it cool.
Skip hot tubs, saunas, soaking, heavily chlorinated water, and really hot showers for 24–48 hours. A normal lukewarm shower is totally fine.

  • Give exfoliation a minute.
Once any initial sensitivity settles, usually after 3-4 days, you can get back to gentle exfoliation. Staying consistent between appointments can help prevent ingrown hairs.

Your skin did its part. The next 24–48 hours are all about keeping things calm.

You’re Smooth. Now What?

Here’s Where Bare Wax Co. Is Hiding.

BWC is located inside Lash Boutique in Lakewood Ranch. When you arrive, come on in and have a seat in the front lobby, we’ll come out and grab you right at your appointment time. If there’s someone at the front desk, they may greet you and let us know you’re here, but if not, don’t worry. You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

You’ll feel it, especially the first time, but it’s quick. The wax goes on warm, the pull lasts a second, and we apply pressure right after. Most clients find that consistent waxing gets easier over time as the hair grows back finer and more evenly.

Yep. No need to cancel. For a Brazilian or bikini wax, just arrive with a fresh tampon or menstrual cup in place. You may be a little more sensitive during your cycle, but otherwise, we’re good to go. Our regular cancellation policy still applies.

Not completely. For a Brazilian, everything from the waist down does need to come off so we can get to everything we need to wax. We skip the disposable underwear because, honestly, it just gets in the way. Having the area fully exposed helps us work efficiently and make sure we don’t miss anything.

Tell us. Seriously. You can be nervous — we know exactly what to do with that. The anticipation is usually worse than the actual appointment anyway. We’ll talk you through it and make sure you always know what’s coming next.

Not even a little. We’re waxers — hair is quite literally the reason we have a job. There’s no such thing as “too hairy,” and you never need to apologize for what you grew in.

Certain prescription acne medications, topical retinoids, recent peels or resurfacing treatments, sunburn, or compromised skin can make waxing unsafe. If you have any open sores, active lesions, or irritation in the area being waxed, we’ll need to wait until the skin is fully healed. Let us know about medications, skincare, recent treatments, or anything going on with your skin so we can make the safest call.

Most body-waxing clients do best on a consistent schedule of about four weeks, although it can vary by area and your individual growth cycle. We can help you figure out what timing works best for you.
